* Onlty with D750 and D810 and newer. ** They all work with today's F6, which also uses the same i-TTL CLS system as the DSLRs; this line refers to the traditional TTL mode of all other Nikon TTL flash cameras made since the 1980s.
Recommendations top As of 2016, the SB-500 is Nikon's best all around flash if your built-in isn't cutting it. I use the discontinued SB-400 for fill-flash all the time in all of my DSLRs. I don't need or want to carry anything bigger. I use my discontinued SB-600 in the very, very few occasions I need more power, or if I'm shooting a 35mm camera or any vintage. As of 2016, the SB-700 is its replacement, and the best flash if you need a big, powerful flash When I need more than one flash for serious lighting, I don't bother with these battery-powered things and use real studio strobes, which cost less and work so much better. If I was a full-time news or event pro, I'd have two SB-5000 because they can belt out the most power and recycle the fastest for heavy use. The SB-5000 also offers a radio slave.

Help Me Help YouI support my growing family through this website, as crazy as it might seem. The biggest help is when you use any of these links when you get anything. It costs you nothing, and is this site's, and thus my family's, biggest source of support. eBay is always a gamble (see How to Win at eBay), but all the other places always have the best prices and service, which is why I've used them since before this website existed. I recommend them all personally. If you find this page as helpful as a book you might have had to buy or a workshop you may have had to take, feel free to help me continue helping everyone. If you've gotten your gear through one of my links or helped otherwise, you're family. It's great people like you who allow me to keep adding to this site full-time. Thanks! If you haven't helped yet, please do, and consider helping me with a gift of $5.00.
