Intro Lenses Specs Performance Recommendations
The LEICA Model T typ 701 is an APS-C mirrorless camera.
Audi helped style it. It's crafted from a block of billet aluminum, like a MacBook Pro. It offers a touch screen instead of buttons.
It's got Wi-Fi and an app so you can get the photos into your phone. It includes free Lightroom software.
It's also got accessory bags and cases for it in yellow, orange-red, black and white. These use an " Easy-Click" system; note the disappearing lugs.
The Model T has no viewfinder, although there is supposedly an outboard VISOFLEX EVF. The separate EVF has a GPS and tilts and swivels.
Two new lenses also are announced:LEICA VARIO-ELMAR-T 18-56/F3.5-5.6 ASPH and theLEICA SUMMICRON-T 23mm f/2 ASPH, and the publicity photos show an 11-23mm and a 55-135mm as well.
It has 16GB of internam memory, meaning that careful shooters like me won't need a card. If we're lucky, maybe we can record to both for backup. That would be cool.
LEICA claims that the T is their fourth system, but I see it as their fifth system, not including products of their Panasonic relationship like the D-Lux.
These systems are:

LEICA M (1954, LEICA M mount)
LEICA R (dead 35mm SLR system, R mount)
LEICA S (2000s, slightly larger than 35mm format digital SLR, S mount)
LEICA T (2014, T-Mount; not compatible with the standard Vivitar T screw mount of the 1970s).

It uses a new dedicated "T" mount, which means there are few lenses available for it.
There's an adapter for M lenses, but they won't autofocus and you'll have to open and close the diaphragm manually for each shot.

The LEICA T typ 701 isn't shipping and no one has seen a production sample. Seeing how wildly Leica-branded items vary in performance depending on who designed them (LEICA, Panasonic, or other third parties) we'll have no idea until they actually ship.

If you just want a great mirrorless camera, any of the Panasonics probably perform as wel and probably have much of the same insidesl. Nothing can beat the Fuji X100S, which also has a 23mm f/2 ASPH lens and adds both an optical and an EVF in the camera itself, as well as a fantastic flash system.
If you are more interested in owning a LEICA as opposed to just getting great pictures, and want a rationally-sized LEICA mirrorless camera, this will be your only choice. Leica's M typ 240 is too big today.
LEICA doesn't seal its boxes, so never buy at retail since you have no idea if you're getting a used, returned or store demo camera.
If you want great photos to show your friends instead of just showing them your fancy LEICA, I'd step up to a real DSLR and get a Nikon D3300 which includes an 18-55mm VR lens for a total or $650, also get the 35/1.8 ($200) and 55-200mm VR ($250) for a whopping system total of $1,100, which today would meet or exceed all the possible lenses you could get for the T system even in the near future
But seriously, though, if you want a tiny camera that isn't just disposable plastic, this LEICA T might just be the answer. We'll have to wait and see.
