Lens Test Glossary About these reviews Introduction This was Nikon's 50mm lens in 1969. To use it on modern Nikons it has to be modified to AI, automatic indexing, which involves replacing or machining a notch in the aperture ring. Attempt to mount it on almost any modern Nikon and little prongs on the camera will interfere with the aperture ring and it won't mount. Don't force it! Try John White for these conversions. Specifications It takes 52mm filters. It has a seven-bladed diaphragm stopping down to f/16. It has seven elements in six groups. It focuses to 2 feet or 0.6 m. at f/5.6. Enlarge Performance See my 50mm Comparison for pages of explicit details and comparisons to modern lenses. Hint: it works as well as anything else.
Recommendations I prefer AF lenses to take advantage of all the features of modern cameras. This is a swell lens for use with a manual focus camera, but you will probably need to have it AI converted. |
