Merry Christmas 2011!!! Photographing Katie and Ryan together is nearly impossible. Mom said no Photoshop shenanigans this year, so we got what we got. I snapped this with my D7000, on-camera direct SB-400 flash, and a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF-n from about 2000 given to me as broken (seems to work great). Mom thought I was nuts asking her to hold pillows to block the direct morning sun from hitting the kids, but as you know, the contrast between the direct sunlight and the indoor Christmas tree would have resulted in even more abysmal results than this!

Ryan's number 4 on paper. He pushed the paper button on my EPSON R220 printer to get paper. This number 4 took him a few tries, and then he really wanted to see it on my computer, so we put it in my Epson Perfection 1640SU scanner from about 2000.
Ryan's Hand in Scanner. Ryan had a blast first wanting to see the number "4" he proudly drew on a piece of paper after several tries, and then wanted to see his hand. What looks like a flame is how this scanner represents the 75W halogen floodlight shining down on it from the ceiling. (Epson Perfection 1640SU from about 2000.)

(Women just never seem to understand our basic fascination with these things.) Although I certainly didn't want to dampen Ryan's enthusiasm, I doubted my scanner could support the weight of this sort of fun, so I nixed the idea and went night-night. Of course once in Ryan's night-night room, we played with his Vtech Kidizoom plugged into the TV.

Katie is Abby Cadabby and Ryan is Spiderman. Ryan was adamant about wearing the hood: Ryan pointed out that if he didn't wear the hood that people wouldn't think he was the real spiderman. (Fuji X100 at f/2 and ISO 3,200.)

YES!!!!! Katie gives the nice lady a feather as a "thank you" for the candy. Our neighbor asks if she's supposed to keep it, and Katie assures her that "Yes, you can go night-night with it." Katie handed out about three feathers. (Fuji X100 at f/2 and ISO 1,250.)
