I usually carry media, usually a burnt CD, to Costco and get prints an hour later as I shop. I mark my serious stuff NO CORRECTIONS on the bag, and let them fix my snapshots automatically. You should get the same service at Target, Wal-Mart and just about anywhere. You can get the same service at most photo stores, but it probably costs more and it's more likely someone at a small dedicated photo store has tweaked the machine for his personal preferences (bad).

I can shoot a party, select a hundred good shots later that night, drop the CD at Costco the next morning, and bring the hostess a box of 100 wonderful 4x6" prints before lunch for under $20! I would never wait for them to churn out of an inkjet, much less be able to afford it as a thank-you. I wouldn't have my inkjet with me on travel, either.

My smarter friends email or FTP their files ahead of them. This way they're waiting for them when they get there.

It's faster to print elsewhere. I've dropped off files at a local lab and had a slew of 8 x 10s ready in 15 minutes. Heck, my EPSON takes 15 minutes to wheeze out a single 8 x 10 at full photo quality!
