Today was cold and dry, with the snow well preserved.
Hoar Frost, 8:15 AM. (2009 LEICA M9, ISO 640, 1/60 second hand-held, LEICA SUMMICRON-M 50mm f/2, no filter.)
No Limits: Sun Sparkle on Icicle, 8:58 AM. (2009 LEICA M9, ISO 160, 1/180, LEICA SUMMICRON-M 50mm f/2, no filter, no tripod.) The tiny 8-pointed sunstar comes from the lens' 8-bladed diaphragm.
Barn, 9:39-9:41 AM. (1963 LEICA M3, 1959 LEICA LEITZ SUPER-ANGULON 21mm f/4, no filter, f/8 for two minutes, casual use of tripod, frame 13 of roll 2 of Kodak T-Max 100.) I calculated this exposure from the data I published in 2009, which was that Fuji Velvia 50 needed 4 minutes to get the best exposure with the same lens and aperture. The exquisite 18-pointed sunstars come from the SUPER-ANGULON's best-in-klasse 9-bladed diaphragm. Every other LEICA 21mm lens is inferior in this aspect. The little rings are halos, caused by reflections inside the clear base of the film. Here's the same shot made with other LEICA lenses; look at their dorky sunstars for comparison.
Triangles, 10:18 AM. (1963 LEICA M3, LEICAMETER MR-4, 1957 LEICA SUMMICRON 50mm f/2 with close-focusing range, focus at 10 meters, f/11 at 1/60, 39mm LEITZ Or orange filter, no tripod, frame 23 of roll 2 of Kodak T-Max 100.)
Barn by River, 10:28 AM. (1963 LEICA M3, LEICAMETER MR-4, 1965 LEICA SUMMICRON 35mm f/2, 39mm LEITZ Or orange filter, focus at 20 meters, f/8 for optimum sharpness at 1/60, no tripod, frame 26 of roll 2 of Kodak T-Max 100.)
That's it for the Yosemite area; the trip's over. The group headed out and south. Of course we kept stopping all day to snap more photos:
Pontiac Indian Head, 3:21 PM. (1963 LEICA M3, LEICAMETER MR-4, 1957 LEICA SUMMICRON 50mm f/2 with close-focusing range, near-focus range at 476 millimeters, f/7.1 at 1/60, 39mm LEITZ Or orange filter, no tripod, frame 35 of roll 2 of Kodak T-Max 100.)
Brown and Green, Buick Eight, 3:36 PM. (2009 LEICA M9, ISO 250, 1/90, LEICA SUMMICRON-M 50mm f/2, no filter, no tripod.)
Agriculture, 4:41 PM. Full-resolution JPG. (2009 LEICA M9, ISO 160, LEICA SUMMILUX-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH mit Floating-Element group, 1/160, no filters, shot out window of car. 18-point sunstar comes from the lens' 9-bladed diaphragm.)
Rest Stop, 6:17 PM. (2009 LEICA M9, ISO 200, LEICA SUMMILUX-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH mit Floating-Element group, 1/30, no filters, no tripod, no problem.)
That's it! < < Return to start of trip.
