Route 66
17 18 19 February 2013

19 February 2013, Tuesday      top

First stop: Tom's Welding.

Tom's Welding.

Tom's Welding. (Fuji X-E1, Fuji 14mm f/2.8, AUTO ISO 400, f/3.2 at 1/150, Perfectly Clear, boring colors further amplified in Photoshop CS6.) Original © file.

These colors look OK to the undemanding, but here's how it looked six years ago as shot on an original Canon 5D for comparison without needing all the tweaks I had to apply to this Fuji shot (see the Original © file for how it came from the X-E1; the Canon shot is relatively as it came from the camera). Yes, even today, the original Canon 5D is still an awesome performer, for a bargain price.

From Tom's we went over to the Route 66 Mother Road Museum.

Casa del Desierto.

Casa del Desierto. (Fuji X-E1, Fuji 18-55mm at 18mm, AUTO ISO 400, f/14 at 1/420, Perfectly Clear, split-toned print.)

All this digital stuff is swell if you don't mind spending thousands of dollars every other year, but here's the same thing three years earlier as shot with a 1950s box camera that cost me less than $10:

After the Route 66 Mother Road Museum, it was off to the world's first Del Taco for lunch.

Something not available elsewhere, I was able to get not one, but two Barstow Tacos for lunch. What made them much better than other Del Taco tacos is that they were overloaded with delicious cheese and meat. Yum! Whoo hoo!

After our delicious lunch, we rode west on Route 66 to see Jesus of Barstow.
