This is an unusually high-quality parametric equalizer for Hi-Fi, audiophile and other home uses.

Its advantage over professional studio parametric equalizers like the Rane SP-15 are that the levels and connectors of this SH-9010 are optimized for home use, while the studio equalizers use different connectors and potentially have more noise at home audio levels because studio units are optimized for higher audio levels of +4 dBu (or more) rather than -10 dBu Hi-Fi level.

Equalizers are musical instruments best used by professional audio engineers, and parametric equalizers are even more difficult for a consumer to understand than a simple graphic equalizer.

This EQ can do wonders voicing your room or speakers, as well as tune your woofers and subwoofers.

It is better than a graphic EQ for any of this because its frequencies can be tuned precisely as you need it.

Here are my laboratory measurements made with the extraordinary Rohde & Schwarz UPL laboratory audio analyzer, an actual laboratory instrument and not just a sound card or software. Colored lines are for the Left Channel and for the Right Channel. When they don't lie on top of each other and turn blue, it's due to channel imbalance:

+0, -0.2 dB from 13 ~ 20,000 Hz, with channel balance within ±0.1 dB. Swell.

Perfect; +0.1, -0.2 dB from 13 ~ 20,000 Hz and ±0.2 dB channel balance.

This is great; at center detents this EQ is flat, as it should be, but equalizers often aren't.

This is a great equalizer from the glory days of high fidelity. It is probably the greatest practical parametric equalizer made for general Hi-Fi use, and is wonderful for voicing and optimizing bass response.

Its controls will probably need cleaning with your favorite cleaner; mine certainly did.

I got mine at eBay (How to Win at eBay). Expect to pay $100 for a very beat-up sample missing knobs, and about $400 for one still in its box.
