Home Donate New Search Gallery How-To Books Links Workshops About Contact New Mexico, November 2008 These are snaps I made while on Dave Wyman's November 2008 New Mexico trip. These are shot on RealRAW. I took a black Nikon FE and a silver Nikon FA, with Nikon NIKKOR 14mm f/2.8 AF-D, 20mm f/2.8 AI-s, 28mm f/2 AI-s, 50mm f/1.4 AI-s, 85mm f/2 AI-s and 200mm f/4 AI lenses. Unless otherwise noted, all are shot a Nikon A2 (light amber) filter for a warmer color balance. I used 52mm filters, and brought some 77mm filters and a 62 -> 77mm step-up ring for use with the 20mm lens. The only digital camera I brought was a Canon SD880, the photos from which you can see at my New Mexico Digital Capture Galley. Feel free to call up both pages and compare some of the same shots made both as photographs (here) and digital capture (there). You can't get these colors with digital capture, and the original film looks a zillion times better than the cheap scans presented below. These colors are what I shpt and goot back from the lab; I didn't have to tweak them, This is why I photograph with Fuji Velvia 50. Shooting the FA in Matrix (AMP) and Program, all I did was focus and shoot, and I was done. I had a blast photographing on this trip! All this gear is from the 1980s, except for the 14mm f/2.8 AF-D, which is from 1999, and the FE, which is from the 1970s. Cameras from this era are so much more fun to shoot: no menus, no custom functions, no rechargeable batteries, no laptops, no downloading and no crap: just shoot.
