I buy only from these approved sources. I can't vouch for ads below.

This Bluetti PV200 is a four-section folding 200 W solar panel. It's about two feet square when folded as shown below, and about 8 feet wide when open as shown above.

What makes this PV200 very special is the parallel connection of its cells. If part of this array falls into shadow it's not a big deal and the rest of the array continues to produce power. Contrast this to most panels, like the Jackery Solar Saga 100 W, which use series connections so even a small shadow cast across just one cell will almost completely stop all output from the array.

It will charge my 1,152 Wh Bluetti AC180 in a day of sun and some clouds, typically putting out a solid 154 Watts all day long.

It folds to a flat two-foot (60 cm) square with a handle. It's easy to move around.

I'd get my Bluetti PV200 at Amazon or at eBay if you know How to Win at eBay.

green ball icon © KenRockwell.com Parallel connections makes it shadow-resistant, which is very important unless you live on the moon with no trees or buildings.

green ball icon © KenRockwell.com Convenient folding configuration is reasonably easy to move around and set up.

green ball icon © KenRockwell.com Doesn't need full sun to put out the maximum observed power of 154 Watts

Bad       intro       top

red ball icon © KenRockwell.com Nothing really other than the slightly cumbersome snappers used to position the little kickstands that don't keep it perfectly flat, either. It my be inelegant but works the same; the array isn't particularly sensitive to alignment.

Missing       intro       top

gray ball icon © KenRockwell.com No USB or other vanity outputs, just solid DC output via industry-standard MC4 connectors. These are the same connectors that the panels in the 15 kilowatt array on my roof use.

gray ball icon © KenRockwell.com No adapters to 7.9 × 0.9mm (DC7909) or other conectors. Bluetti instead includes adapter cables with power stations like the AC180.

Power

I get a solid 154 Watts all day in sunlight (80,000 Lx), even as it heats up or I don't have full or direct sun.

Even with the sun hitting at 45º I still get 145 Watts.

The panel saturates at well below full sunlight, so even in partly cloudy weather it puts out plenty of power:

Shading

It puts out linearly based on how much is covered. While this seems normal, people familiar with solar panels know all too well that most panels are series-connected so even a small shadow turns off most of the panel since the power can't make it through any shaded cell.

If I fold one of the four panels by 90º so that the sun misses it, the array still puts out 82% of its total power (125 W versus 153 W).

If I cover half of one of the four panels under clouds, I still get 86% of my output (120 Watts versus 140 W).

Ergonomics

My biggest complaint is that the kickstands are balky. Rather than the intuitive velcro closures of the stands of the Jackery Solar Saga 100 W, these stands require you use a hand to fiddle with snappers to set their angles.

There are only three supports for this four-panel array, so as you see in the photo at the top it won't always sit perfectly pretty.

If you find this page as helpful as a book you might have had to buy or a workshop you may have had to take, feel free to help me continue helping everyone.

If you've gotten your gear through one of my links or helped otherwise, you're family. It's great people like you who allow me to keep adding to this site full-time. Thanks!

If you haven't helped yet, please do, and consider helping me with a gift of $5.00.
