Friday, 25 February 2011

Dave Wyman's communicates often with The Almighty, and scheduled this trip appropriately so that we would have snow. It snowed overnight, and was snowing all day.

Bridal Veil Falls

Bridal Veil Falls, 8:47 AM. (1963 LEICA M3, LEICAMETER MR-4, 1957 LEICA SUMMICRON 50mm f/2 with close-focusing range, f/5.6 at 1/50, no filter, no tripod, frame 10 of roll 1 of Kodak T-Max 100.)

Flowing Trees

Flowing Trees, 8:52 AM. I flipped the negative to print this one so that your eye flows from left to right, instead of expecting the viewer to read the photo backwards. (1963 LEICA M3, LEICAMETER MR-4, 1957 LEICA SUMMICRON 50mm f/2 with close-focusing range, f/5.6 at 1/50, no filter, no tripod, frame 12 of roll 1 of Kodak T-Max 100.)

Trees and Fence

Trees and Fence, 9:04 AM. This is hilarious: I had no idea that these two photos would merge themselves into a vertical diptych! (1963 LEICA M3, LEICAMETER MR-4, 1965 LEICA SUMMICRON 35mm f/2, f/5.6 at 1/50, no filter, no tripod, frame 13 of roll 1 of Kodak T-Max 100.)

Trees in Snow, Yosemite

Trees in Snow, 9:08 AM. I dodged (lightened) the tree trunk on the right to bring it forward and draw your eyes to it. (2009 LEICA M9, ISO 250, 1/60 second hand-held, LEICA SUMMICRON-M 50mm f/2, no filter.)

Zig Zag

Zig Zag, 9:14 AM. (1963 LEICA M3, LEICAMETER MR-4, 1965 LEICA SUMMICRON 35mm f/2, f/5.6 at 1/60, focus at 4.4 meters, no filter, no tripod, frame 15 of roll 1 of Kodak T-Max 100.)

Riverbank in Snow Flurries

Riverbank in Snow Flurries, 9:14 AM. (1963 LEICA M3, LEICAMETER MR-4, 1965 LEICA SUMMICRON 35mm f/2, f/4.7 at 1/50, no filter, no tripod, frame 16 of roll 1 of Kodak T-Max 100.)

Riverbank in Snow Flurries

Riverbank from Stoneman Bridge in Snow Flurries, 11:28 AM. (1963 LEICA M3, LEICAMETER MR-4, 1965 LEICA SUMMICRON 35mm f/2, f/5.6 at 1/50, no filter, no tripod, frame 17 of roll 1 of Kodak T-Max 100.)

Green Pine Needles

Blue and Green, 11:33 AM. (2009 LEICA M9, ISO 160, 1/90 second hand-held, LEICA SUMMILUX-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH mit Floating-Element group, no filter.)

Yosemite Sign in Blowing Wet Snow

Sign in Blowing Wet Snow, 3:14 PM. (1963 LEICA M3, LEICAMETER MR-4, 1965 LEICA SUMMICRON 35mm f/2, f/5.6 at 1/30, no filter, no tripod, frame 18 of roll 1 of Kodak T-Max 100.)

It looks pretty, but it was pretty painful today as it came down. It wasn't dry, powdery snow; it was wet, cold, nasty snow. We packed it in early.
