2024 update: Our S580 was a lemon from the day we bought it. It seemed to spend more of its time at the dealer waiting for parts like 48V batteries and cameras that took months each to arrive than we ever spent driving it. The few days we did, it was rare that more than 24 hours would pass without new idiotic warnings popping up that our dealer was powerless to resolve, since software updates were few and far between.
Even basic things like the retractable door handles wouldn't work properly and the dashboard would blink on and off. The seat belts malfunctioned the first time we put anyone in the back seat. It would swap user profiles and move the seats on us while we were driving. Occasionally it would panic phantom brake, thinking something was in front of us even though nothing was. Arrgh, don't get me started.
Thank God I still have my 2013 S550, which works flawlessly.
Heaven help whoever got stock with this car after it went to to auction. Mercedes tries, but just can't fix all its gremlins. In fact, three months after we turned it in, it's still sending us harassing emails about its battery being low — something it's been doing since we first got it! Geesh. bigger.
