Lens Comparison

Index of individual test pages DISTORTION The f/1.4 lenses had the same barrel distortion. The f/1.8 AF and 55mm Micro had no distortion. The 18-200mm VR had a lot of pincushion distortion. The good news is that all of this distortion is completely and easily eliminated with Photoshop CS2's Lens Distortion Filter. Enter the figures below in the filter's first box and you're done. |

Every distortion measurement is different. These numbers won't likely correlate with any other published test. This is because lens distortion is a complicated measurement which varies as the focused distance and the height (radius) of the image. Every test specifies distortion as a percentage, but without more details these other tests are meaningless. I measured these numbers at infinity. They are numbers to use with Photoshop CS2's Lens Distortion Filter. They are not percentages. I measured these and share the figures for you to use for your own photography. The values are copyrighted and registered. You may not republish or copy them. I PLUG I spent almost two months shooting and writing this comparison of 50mm lenses. No one pays me for this. If you find this as helpful as a book you might have had to buy or a workshop you may have had to take, feel free to help me write more with a donation. Thanks for reading! Ken Next: Falloff |
