The EOS R5 (2020, 45 MP, 12/20 FPS, CFexpress and an SD card slot) and R6 (2020, 20 MP, 12/20 FPS, two SD card slots) are Canon's newest and highest frame-rate mirrorless cameras.

The EOS R5 is also Canon's highest-resolution mirrorless camera. If you need it; you need it — but it's also the biggest and most expensive.

The EOS R6 is a lower-resolution version of the EOS R5 with the same frame rates, but adds higher ISOs, deeper buffers and more battery life at a much lower price.

The oldest and less expensive EOS R (2018, 30 MP, 8 FPS) and smallest and by far least expensive RP (2019, 26 MP, 5 FPS) each have one SD card slot.

Oddly the most basic EOS RP and newest EOS R6 share the same traditional direct mode-control dial, while the oldest EOS R and newest EOS R5 share the same top LCD with a MODE button and indirect mode-control ring. I prefer the direct-select dial of the EOS RP and EOS R6 and never use the top LCD of the EOS R and EOS R5, but that's just me.

With an unlimited money and weight budget, of course get the EOS R5.

The EOS R6 saves you a lot of money with the same high frame rates as the EOS R5, and you may prefer the R6's two SD card slots, higher ISOs, deeper shooting buffer, slightly lighter weight and slightly longer battery life compared to the R5.

If you shoot at high frame rates, the R6 has less data to chew on so you can work faster. If you need high speed you probably don't need the R5's insane 45MP resolution and the accompanying slowdown in workflow from having to choke on double the data for everything you do. There is very little to no visible difference between 45MP and 20MP; it just helps sell cameras.

2018's EOS R is the original ground-breaking, jaw-dropping full-frame Canon mirrorless camera, however today it's no longer the best at anything. It might be a perfect "just right" fit for your needs; the EOS R has size, weight, resolution and frame rates in-between the EOS RP and the EOS R5 & EOS R6.

Personally I love 2019's EOS RP, which is more than fast enough for nature and landscape and interiors and exteriors and almost all the things for which we use mirrorless, and I love the EOS RP's smallest size, lowest weight, direct controls and by far lowest price. You can't not love the EOS RP; it's everything mirrorless was always supposed to be!

Note virtually identical control layout and design in left column (EOS R controls are the same as EOS R5) and in right column (EOS RP controls are the same as EOS R6).
