Ryan Rockwell
Born 8:16:30 PM, 15 December 2006, La Jolla, California. 8 pounds, 12.2 ounces (3,975g). 20" (51 cm). The technical gobbledygook after each shot is the equipment I used for each photo. Many photographer friends ask. (< < back to Newest Photos) January 2007 30 January 2007, Tuesday (Daddy's Birthday)

18 January 2007, Thursday I love how close I can get with my Nikon 18-55mm lens. This shot at 55mm on my D40 and my bounced SB-400. Ryan is chauffeured to Oceanside, California. (Nikon D40, 18-55mm II lens.)
16 January 2007, Tuesday Ryan and Uncle Mark. Ryan will be a UCLA freshman in the fall of 2024. Ryan's grandfather, grandmother and uncle all went to UCLA. (Canon 5D, Canon 85mm f/1.8, f/1.8 at 1/100, ISO 800, available light) Ryan on mom's leopard print pillows. Ryan loves to contemplate our ceiling fans, confusing them with an Alien mother ship out of ET or Fire in the Sky. He's going to freak out when we turn on the fans; today he's intrigued by the light. (Canon 5D, Canon 85mm f/1.8, f/2 at 1/80, ISO 3,200, available light)
12 January 2007, Friday Today Ryan easily can hold up his head. He's also started working on his website. (photo by wife, Nikon D40, 18-55mm II lens and bounced SB-400 flash.)

Who needs color management? Here's the genuine article next to his photo, a 17-cent special from Price Club (Costco). No profiles, no nothing: just shoot. The saturation is a bit higher in the print because I deliberately have the saturation jacked up in my D40, with which I made the original shot and this shot. The original shot? See a few images down yesterday. This is the print we had made up at Price Club below. See Color Management is for Wimps. 10 January 2007, Wednesday Ryan's first visit to another San Diego invention: the Price Club. Even though I've been publishing all these photos here on his website, we hadn't made any prints to mail to old-timers. We had hundreds printed (five sets of 50 shots) for relatives. I also had some 12 x 18" made from my 14mm and 15mm Fisheye conversions in DxO, which looked great. (Nikon D40, 18-55mm II lens all on auto, no flash. Auto ISO selected ISO 560.) Ryan's Wednesday Morning. Photos like this are easy with my Nikon D40, the included 18-55mm II lens and bounced (pointed 90 degrees up) SB-400 flash. I shot all these (120 shots total) on my way off to work in less than 15 minutes. I sorted out the best and popped them up here. That's me (dad) feeding him above, holding and setting my D40 in my other hand. The color changes slightly depending on if my flash is bouncing off the white ceiling or the peach walls.
09 January 2007, Tuesday Afternoon nap, 2:47PM. (D40, 18-55mm II at 55mm and bounced SB-400.)
