Cute; Nikon's making this little Z fc look like a cross between an EL2 from 1977 and an FE from 1978.

This is not a mirrorless Df; the Z fc is only DX, not FX. It's what you get if a Fuji Instax 40 and a Z50 had a baby. The Z50 is a great little camera; I'm unsure if cute is worth the price difference. The real difference is which sets of controls you prefer; for digital I really like the U1 and U2 on the Z50. Great news is we now have two choices!

This 8~25mm is interesting because it's an 16~50mm ultra-ultrawide to normal equivalent on full-frame (10~31mm on APS-C), an ultrawide range which has never been equalled anywhere else. Take this new 8-25mm f/4 and a telephoto zoom and you're done, at least on micro 4/3.

I updated my Fujifilm X-E2s Review in light of how sad is the newest Fujifilm X-E4. I'd rather shoot with the X-E2s, and you can get it for only about $325 used if you know How to Win at eBay, compared to paying $849 for a new X-E4.

The old X-E2s adds a rear control dial, an AF-C / AF-S / M focus mode lever, a 4-way rear controller, an integral grip, built-in flash and Made-in-Japan quality and weighs 2/3 oz. (19g) less than the feature-stripped new X-E4.

I brought this 2014 review up-to-date, adding also image stabilization results on the X-S10.

This is the 2014 model, which is a great lens that you can get new or get used for about $225 if you know How to Win at eBay. If buying new; I'd suggest the new Fuji XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR which sells for the same price new and adds an aperture ring.

In-camera stabilization makes it pretty easy getting perfectly sharp results like these hand-held at a ¼ of a second.

This lens has such huge depth of field it doesn't need to be focused, but it sports a scale-focus lever to give it even better sharpness and huge focus range from about a foot (0.3m) to infinity, and the depth-of-field extends way beyond that..

No, it's not a camera, but it's outdoors and a great workout, so as an avid cyclist I couldn't resist seeing what an eBike could do. Well, at least everything since 1990, and it is everything f/2.8 and faster; earlier lenses were f/3.5 and f/4. Heck, Canon's first 100mm was the 100mm f/4 Serenar of February 1948. 100mm lenses have been around a long time.

Actually this is a comparison of all the autofocus 100mm macro lenses; I threw in the EF 100mm f/2 USM because it was similar.

See how remarkably sharp it is — even wide-open at f/2.8? Lenses don't get any sharper than this! What's not sharp on the sides is simply out-of-focus; this lens is ultra-sharp all the way out to the corners at every aperture.

Sony A1 with Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM.

WOW! The A1 has new Creative Look controls which finally give me the saturation for which I've been asking from Sony, so the A1 really does take better pictures than every Sony that came before if you know how to use these. Better than just gross saturation, it seems that colors don't shift hue as they wash out to white, which is superbly filmlike.

It also adds lots of other new things I use, so ignore the fact that it's the fastest mirrorless out there for sports and action; the A1 also makes better images even for landscapes and architecture than all the older Sonys like the A7R IV.

I brought my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Review up to date. I originally had written it back in 2010.

Got that? I wrote the RF macro review yesterday, and updated the EF version today The EF version works on both DSLRs and mirrorless with an EF to RF adapter, while the RF macro only works on mirrorless — but the RF version goes all the way to 1.4× from infinity.

It features, finally, clairvoyant thought-controlled autofocus that Canon hasn't offered since 1998's 35mm EOS 3.

While Canon calls it "eye control," in this case the marketing people aren't pushing it hard enough. Our eyes aren't manual; they move subconsciously as controlled by our thoughts. The camera selects AF areas based on the position of our eyes, which move by themselves. I've used this system before and there's no conscious effort involved. Our eyes follow our consciousness, and thus AF areas magically go whereever the subject goes, regardless of the things that can confuse the mere mortal computer-controlled AF systems of Nikon and Sony and Fuji.

Save/Load settings to/from card is huge. I'vw tried it, and it seems to save and recall all the C1, C2 and C3 settings and the CAMERA , AF, PLAYBACK, WRENCH, CUSTOM and MY MENU settings, but defective is that the R5 still doesn't save or recall copyright information, which is sad because it takes a lot of time to add that in manually each time. Set it at MENU > WRENCH 6 > Copyright information.

This is extremely useful for setting up a second camera, resetting your camera as you want it after it returns from a repair or loaning it to a friend, or setting up a rented body as you want it.

Even cooler, you can save settings files to your computer and share settings. Here's my personal 386 kB CAMSET01.CSD file. Clicking that link won't do anything if you click it here, but click the link on your computer and download the file, then copy that CAMSET01.CSD file to the top directory of a card (EOS_DIGITAL/CAMSET01.CSD), pop the card in your R5, and go to MENU > WRENCH 5 > Save/load cam settings on card > Load from card > OK and your R5 will be setup exactly as is mine.

Caution: be sure to save your own settings before you load mine so you can get back to yours if you hate mine.

My C1 is set for general photography with extreme sharpness and saturation.

My C2 is set the same as my C1, except that the LCD brightness is set to MAXIMUM for outdoor use.

My C3 is set the same as my C2, except with normal saturation and with animal-optimized AF tracking for photographing dogs running and playing outside.

Of course each of these three settings has a zillion little settings along with it to optimize it for how I shoot in each situation. Enjoy!
